Woodbridge, VA --
The team traveled to northern Virginia this past Saturday to
compete in the Garfield Duals. The Knights dominated the
competition winning all matches 25 or more points.
The team recorded 27 pins while giving up only 10.
John Dommert (171) and Patrick O'Brien (215) were Dale's only wrestlers to
go 5-0.. James White (112), Sam Jones (135), and Michael Sims
(189) also went undefeated on the day.
At 103, J.P. Curtin ( 4-1 / 2 pins ) made an impressive
debut dominating his weight class. Until his final match, no one
made it past the 1st period with him. In his match against
Garfield, Curtin was controlling the match and was on his way to a third
pin before getting to anxious and being rolled through and stuck. Curtin was named the teams Most Outstanding Wrestler for
the tournament.
Others new to the Dale lineup included Cody Griffin
(112) who recorded a 4-1 record with 2 pins along with Josh Miles
(140), who suffered a season ending injury last year at the Garfield
Duals, also going 4-1 on the day with 3 pins.
With many of the varsity starters still not where they
want to be weight wise, the team is still not at full strength with
returning varsity starters doubled up at the same weight class. The guys will be at full strength next week vs. Matoaca.
The Knights will compete again this week on Wednesday at home vs.
Meadowbrook, Clover Hill, and Louisa and then again this Saturday at the
Ocean Lakes Duals.
