DIAMOND AND DOMMERT BRING HOME ALL-STATE HONORS 02.22.2009
In 15 years, Dale has sent multiple wrestlers to the show on numerous occasions and failed to come home with more than a single state place winner.  Sophomore, Brandon Diamond (140) and Senior, John Dommert (171) brought this outcome to an end with their stellar performances this past weekend at the AAA State Tournament held at Oscar Smith H.S.  Freshman standout, Alex Turley (119), also wrestled well but came up short, going 1-2 in the tournament.

All three wrestlers came into the tournament with optimism to not only place but also to set a number of school records for their Alma Matter.  With Turley's sole victory, he broke the Freshman Single Season Win record which was held by teammate, Brandon Diamond.  Turley surpassed Diamond's 39 wins to set the new bar at 40.  Diamond watched his freshman record be erased only to extend his new Sophomore Win Record to 49 victories previously held by teammate John Dommert.  Dommert came away with two school records: Most Senior Victories - 54 and Most Career Pins - 84.  Dommert's record breaking pin came in his consolation semis match over Barnes of Kempsville.  With the score tied 1-1, Barnes had a cradle locked up near the edge of the mat and was looking for back points when Dommert turned into the cradle to end up on top for the stick.

In a rebuilding year, the BAGUBAs concluded their 2008-09 season winning their fifth consecutive Central District Dual Title and fourth consecutive Central District Tournament Championship.  They guys have  continued to make progress statistically and in their ability to compete at the highest level.  With many young and talented freshman and sophomores already excited about next season, the Knights will look to move back up the regional and state ladder with dedication and hard work in the off-season.

Thanks to all the parents, fans, administration, and friends for your support in keeping the Dale Army alive and strong.  Go BAGUBAs!
